Believe in your own worth, the bully is the one with the issues……

I'd been bullied by my boss and owners of the company for about a year.

It was subtle at first, mainly nasty comments behind my back (which always got back to me) but then it grew and it became very apparent I wasn't welcome to work in the company anymore.

I was the wrong fit the for the company, I didn't participate in taking drugs, I didn't go out drinking, and I wasn't willing to work for hours into the evening for no additional pay.

It didn't matter that I worked hard and cared about my job, I simply didn't fit their mould, and thats all that mattered to them.

The bullying got so bad, I used to get anxiety attacks on a Sunday evening at the mere thought of having to go to work on the Monday.

I wish I had a better resolution, but I simply had to leave. My mental health was at an all time low, and I knew it was a matter of time before they pushed me out.

I'd see it happen before to other staff members who they'd taken a dislike to.

Your lesson? Believe in your own worth, and understand that if you are being bullied you are not at fault - the bully is the one with the issues.

How did you move forward?: I work for a supportive company who encourage individuality and diversity, they are worlds apart from my previous employer. The only thing I would do differently would be to have the courage to leave earlier if I was being bullied, no job is ever worth a strain on your mental health.
